The sweltering summer sun was just above the boy’s head as
he ventured outside of their cell block. Warm rays rested at his
back as he saw various group members attending their duties.
Duties, that Carl had to say, he had no part in. It wasn’t him of
course, new rules, his dad had said. And he didn’t like them one
bit. Not when he could be useful and help everyone else.

Watching T-Dog…well, doing something, the ever-growing boy
made his way down, perhaps it was something he could help
with. Maybe his father wouldn’t be too upset about that…after all,
  it was T-Dog.

              “Hey, you need any help?”

T-Dog had been frying in the hot Georgia sun, working on making
sure the fence around the front half of the prison stayed up and
kept out walkers. Wiping the sweat on his brow off on his shoulder,
he took a step back, surveying the work he’d done in the past – what
felt like – three hours. It wasn’t too bad for working with the limited
resources that they had. It would last until the winter, at least. It still
needed some work, though, so after taking a small water break, T-Dog
was back to work, hammering away.

There was no longer the threat of walkers reaching through the fence,
so perhaps he was being a bit more careless with the way he’d let his
arms dangle by the fence, resting on the chain-links. Wiping his brow
once more, he set the hammer down, surveying his work; almost done.
When Carl had reached him, his eyes lingered on the fence for a split
second longer before gazing at the boy. Kind eyes nodded at his question.

❝Sure, I could use some help hammerin’ these last few
boards t’ the fence. Is it okay with yer dad?❞

Well now he understood. It was just to make sure their arms and other things didn’t get through the fence. They could...

T-Dog was just trying to stay pre-cautious of Carl’s safety. Plus, he knew that if Rick saw Carl somewhere he wasn’t...
